Happy new year, everyone!

Congratulations to Sir Pterry. In a fortuitous bit of timing, I also received my necklace today. It is shiny. I shall wear it with a blue or green dress when I go to the Discworld con in Melbourne next year.

Next year I shall also be returning to university. I've decided to study IT, because I'm interested in computers and there's lots of money in it.

That is really pretty. I heard from somewhere that the Tiffany books are more in keeping with earlier Discworld books (less dark, more humour) is that true?

I hadn't thought about it before, but I suppose they are. They are written for a younger audience, so there are more jokes, and there's not much existential despair at all. The great thing, though, is that he doesn't talk down to the reader. There are fewer obscure pop-culture references, and no swearing, but he expects the kids to be intelligent enough to follow what he's writing without sinking down to the level of "See Tiffany. See Tiffany Smash Jenny Green-Teeth With A Frying Pan." Nation is good like that, too, but it is a bit darker.
